About Urban Thinkers Campus:
The Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) 9.0, is conceived as a part of World Urban Campaign (A UN-HABITAT Initiative) as an open forum for critical exchange between urban researchers, professionals, and decision-makers who believe that urbanization is an opportunity and can lead to positive urban transformations. It is meant to contribute to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. The theme for this year’s UTC 9.0 is #housingmatters.
The New Urban Agenda, adopted at the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, Ecuador on 20 October 2016, was endorsed by the UN General Assembly on 23 December 2016. It's an action-oriented document mobilizing Member States and stakeholders for sustainable urban development at the local level. Implementation contributes to localizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and achieving various Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 11 on inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities.

We are a part of the Urban Thinkers Campus 9.0 #housing matters, which will be held online and on campus from the month of July to September, 2024. The main themes of the UTC 9.0 are Housing Crisis, Decarbonising Housing, Inclusive Housing, Housing, Health & Safety, Liveable Homes & Neighborhoods.
The School of Building and Environment aims to welcome various stakeholders such as Youth, Policy Makers, Urban Planners, Designers, Architects, Government Organisations, NGOs, the Elderly, Differently Abled, Home Makers to participate and share their knowledge and experience on Housing and Sustainability.
Why #housingmatters?
Because worldwide at least two billion people don’t have access to safe, affordable and adequate housing. By 2030, 3 billion people, about 40 per cent of the world’s population will need access to adequate housing.
Adequate housing has become an emergency. Housing is the first line of defence against climate change and health risks. Homelessness is putting million lives at risk.
Housing can dramatically reduce carbon emissions. Efficient housing design, the use of low-carbon materials, carbon capture, reuse, and zero waste approaches can radically reduce the environmental impacts of the housing sector.
Housing is more than a roof over our heads. Providing housing is also about providing basic services for people to live in dignity and access to places to thrive.
