OBJECTIVES
- To spread awareness about environmental pollution
- To prepare and organize students’ participation for preservation and conservation of environment
ACTIVITIES
Eco club of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology conducted a workshop titled "Ozonium" on 13.02.2024. Dr.M.Roja Raman, Scientist explained about the ill effects of ozone layer damage and enlightened student participants about the measures to be taken to avoid such damage.
Eco club of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology conducted tree plantation on the eve of Women's Day on 08.03.2023. Vice President Ms.Maria Bernadette Tamilarasi has actively particpated in the tree plantation program and extended best wishes to students.
Chess club of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology conducted an orientation session on 14th February,2023. The orientation session is conducted in peer to peer learning mode by the office bearers of the club to the student participants. The international rules of playing chess were discussed using visual aids to the participants.
Eco club of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology has conducted a webinar on "Air pollution and its impact on Life" on 26th October, 2022. Dr.Sreekala K Nair, Director , Nature Science Foundation enlightened student participants on the means of containing the air pollution.
Eco Club of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology has conducted a webinar on "Clinical Drug Development” on 24th September, 2022. Dr.Sakthi V P Srinivasan, Scientific Advisor , Immuneed, Sweden has educated the participants with trends in drug discovery and development. Expert interaction with students was enlightening towards research and development.
"International Eco Club Student Chapter " inauguration took place in Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology on 11th June, 2022 in association with the Nature Science Foundation Dr.P.V.Sreenivasan, Director , Nature Science Foundation and Dr.Dhanalakshmi, Program Officer , Nature Science Foundation were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor of the institution and the Student Chapter Establishment Certificate was presented by the Nature Science Foundation to the Institution in this function. Eco Club students and co-ordinators participated with enthusiasm in this inaugural function.
Eco Club of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology conducted "ECO-ENZYME" - An environmental awareness session on 7th January, 2022. Ms.Shawani Shome shared her learning experiences with students.
The ECO CLUB has conducted a Workshop titled “Composting” on 16th July,2019. Students participated in the workshop with enthusiasm and undergone hands-on experience about the best methods of Bio-Composting
Eco club has organized “ ECOBUZZ "- a workshop on Waste Management on 15th March, 2019. Students participated with enthusiasm and learned methods of making best out of waste materials.
ECO club has conducted " ECOMANIA" on 19th February, 2019. Students actively participated in all the environmental awareness related activities.
Eco Club observed the "WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY" on 29th June, 2018 by planting tree saplings. This is followed by inspiring speech on "POLLUTION AROUND US" by Mr.Arun Krishnamoorthy, Founder of Environmental Foundation of India.
Eco club organized ECOMANIA 2.0 on 20.07.2018. This event is a compilation of eco quiz, eco connection and an expert lecture by Mr.Gokul, Founding President of Engineers without borders . This event was organized to create awareness among students on "Conservation of Environment".
The club students visited two of our institution adopted schools namely Panchayat Union Middle School at Thenmelpakkam and Government High School at Kumizhi and distributed the hand made seedballs to the school children on 21st March 2018.
One day workshop on Seedballs, a permaculture technique for growing seeds in an easy and effective way was conducted on 28.08.2017 to create awareness about a simple way of plantation. 145 students participated in the event and expressed their interest in making the campus green and eco-friendly.
The ECO Club students carried out the Mosquito Repellent Programme near the ladies hostel in Jan 2017. Changing the salinity of water makes it unfit for mosquito breeding. So the club students prepared small jute bags filled with husk. Then they dipped them in crude oil and placed them in stagnated water.

First Phase of Terrace Gardening-Our management inaugurated the first phase of terrace gardens on 15th August 2016, Eco club along with Rotaract club of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology developed in a 100sq.ft.terrace garden on the terrace of Administration building, International Research Centre, ECE Block, CSE Block, 14th Block, Biotechnology Department and Chemical Engineering Department.
Organic Terrace Farming was inaugurated in Chemical Engineering Department by Director Dr.Mariazeena Johnson on 5th April, 2016.
Our club celebrated Earth Hour 2016 in association with WWF Tamil Nadu at our campus.
Earth hour is a periodical event participated by the members of Eco club. The Management of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in association with WWF Chennai and eco club members observed the Earth Hour on 28th March 2015 at 8.30 pm at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology.
Eco market setup in 2015 FEMFEST had a great response from girls of our University and other colleges.
Eco club students cultivated mushrooms in waste pet bottles during December, 2014 and January, 2015. Ladies finger was also cultivated in the campus during February, 2015.
Eco club students conducted a workshop on 3rd September, 2014 on making useful things from waste pet bottles, paper, glass, cardboards, ice cream sticks etc.,
Eco club members actively created an eco market from recycled waste products during Technosummit (3rd-5th sep) 2014
On 4th April 2014 club students prepared paper bags, which they gave to shops in Sholinganallur area and exchanged them for plastic bags to create an awareness on the detrimental effects of using plastic bags.
On 8th March 2014, Eco club members visited Sri Srinivasa Paper Mill Pvt.Ltd and were briefed about the procedure of recycling waste paper.
Eco club members observed the Earth Hour on 29th March 2014 at 8.30 P.M at Spencer Plaza, Chennai, which was presided by our beloved Director Madam, Dr.Mariazeena Johnson
The club commenced work on 14th February 2014 in an eco farm in our campus with the activity of growing vegetables using organic fertilizers
Farmers were felicitated by management and eco club members were awarded certificates
